Recently I was part of my first fly swap. I have read about these on forums and blogs before but did not know how to get involved in one. As some of you might be, I am a big Redditor (someone who reads Reddit.com) and I subscribe to some of their fly fishing subreddits. The three main ones I read are /r/flyfishing, /r/flytying, and more recently/r/flyswap. These all have great information, pictures, and videos on fly fishing.
Mayfly - nymph, emerger, adult, & spinner
Caddis - nymph, cased, emerger & adult
Midge - larvae, adult
Every participant was responsible for tying 6 flies of each of the two stages they chose (some stages had two flies tied). I ended up tying the cased and emerger stages of the caddis fly. This is the perfect setup because every angler ends up with a dozen new flies at the end of the swap.
